Accessing SynMain via AppStream 2.0

Introduction

This article shows steps to access SynMain client on your new Synergetic Cloud instance.

Prerequisites: Your identity provider (IDP) (e.g. Azure AD) is already set up to connect with your Synergetic Cloud instance.

Logging in to SynMain via AppStream

Once you have connected your identity provider (IDP) such as Azure AD with Education Horizon’s Authentication service provider (FusionAuth), you can access SynMain via AppStream 2.0 using your school credentials.

You can connect to AppStream 2.0 by using either a web browser or the AppStream 2.0 client for Windows.

Using AppStream via a browser

Any HTML5 capable browser is supported. No plug-ins or downloads are required. Simply connect to AppStream 2.0 by entering the URL provided and entering your school credentials when prompted. After you sign in, you are redirected to a page that displays one or more applications that are available for your AppStream 2.0 streaming session.

Using the Catalog to open additional applications

The SynMain application starts by default when AppStream is opened. You are also able to run additional instances of Synergetic, as well as other applications (i.e. Excel and Word) by clicking on Catalog and then the application links.

At any one time, you can switch between the running applications by clicking on Windows.

Using AppStream client (Windows PCs only)

AppStream provides a windows client which provides additional features over the browser tools. In particular, this will be required to support printing functionality in the Synergetic Windows Client (SynMain) which would normally send files to a local printer. The AppStream Windows Client can be downloaded from this website.

At the AppStream Windows Client, Excel and Word icons are available to launch alongside with SynMain.

Using the Home Folder to upload/download files

Education Horizons has enabled the Home Folders file storage option, to better support the transfer of files between your local PC or school network, and AppStream. Further details about this feature can be found at this link
