Overview
Synergetic test environments can be updated with 'fresh' data from the Synergetic production environment. This involves a process where a backup copy of the production database is transferred to the test environment and restored. The restored data is then configured for use as a test environment. The process also includes updating the Synergetic network share from production. If production is running a newer version of Synergetic, this will effectively upgrade Synergetic in the test environment at the same time. If the versions of Synergetic are different between production and test, please refer to the 'Gotchas' section at the end of the document.
Prerequisites
- Test environment has been provisioned with Synergetic operating successfully.
- Production database backups are available to be copied & restored to the test server.
- Database refresh SQL Agent job has been provisioned.
Step-by-step guide
Log in to test server, run SQL Server Management Studio and log in as 'sa'
Under 'SQL Server Agent', there should be a SQL job called 'Syn Database Refresh from Production'
Double-click the job to open it's properties.
Select 'Steps' and the steps displayed should look similar to above. (Synergetic v69 has an additional step to also switch Single Touch Payroll into test mode).
If the steps look similar, great you're all set to start the data refresh process. If not, please contact our Service Desk to arrange setting this up for you.
Right-click on the job and select 'Start Job at Step'
Make sure the first step is selected and click 'Start'.
The job will now refresh the database from production and configure for a testing environment automatically.
Once the job completes, the Synergetic test environment is ready to access.
Gotchas
Please be aware that the data cannot be refreshed under the following conditions:
- The test environment is running a newer version of Synergetic than production. (ie: test is on v69.16 and production on v69.04)
- The production environment is running a newer 'major' version of Synergetic than test. (ie: test is on v68.44 and production is on v69.16)
