Vic Curric Maths 2.0

Modified on Mon, 20 Apr at 6:27 AM

Overview

The Victorian Government recently issued further guidance and updated reporting specifications to support reporting against Mathematics Version 2.0 published on the Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10: Policy | education.vic.gov.au

This clarified that where schools take up Mathematics 2.0, reporting must be against an overarching teacher judgement each semester.

This knowledge base article will assist schools in configuring these new changes

Prerequisite

Schools have upgraded their Synergetic instance to at least V71.18 or applied the Maths V2.0 Hot

Detail

In Synergetic Release 71.08, 6 new Mathematics 2.0 Strands were introduced and made available for loading into Subject Other Area Definition Maintenance.  Based on the Victorian Government clarification and post release 71.18  these 6 strands will no longer be available to load into Subject Other Area Definition Maintenance.  Schools can still add them manually and Schools that have already deployed these 6 strands will retain them.

VC2M Mathematics 2.0 has been introduced as a strand that will be loaded when Victorian Curriculum is loaded via the [Add/Load] button. This will allow you to make overall teacher judgments for Mathematics 2.0.

Note: Please note the default description for the Curriculum Area VC2M will be changed to just "Mathematics" in an upcoming release.  You may make this change yourself ahead of this.

For schools that already have Mathematics 2.0 loaded, VC2M Mathematics 2.0 will be added as a strand. The 6 Mathematics 2.0 strands will be set to inactive, they will still be available for linking to subjects and reporting, but will not be copied over into the next year when a Copy is performed. This will result in these schools having 7 strands for Mathematics 2.0 for 2024.

DSY-24952 - Inactivate 6 x Maths 2.0 Strands (Final)

At the same time, in Subject Assessment Maintenance, any subject assessment that is linked to a Mathematics 2.0 strand will be automatically linked to the VC2M Mathematics 2.0. This is done as a risk mitigation measure to ensure that if a school takes no further action after upgrading or applying the HotFix, then Mathematics 2.0, reporting will be against an overarching teacher judgement.

DSY-24951 - Re-Link to new Strand (5)

Schools may then proceed as required.

Potential courses of action may be:

  • Add a separate Subject Assessment for the overall teacher judgement and link it to the Mathematics 2.0 strand in Subject Assessment Area Other Definition Maintenance.
  • Re-link the 6 x Mathematics 2.0 strands to their matching subject assessments
  • Accept the changes the Upgrade / Hotfix made, and take no further action.

Any combination of these, or other arrangements for linking between Subject Other Area Definition Maintenance and Subject Assessment can be done.

After reading this material and making any changes to your setup, please test your current reports and raise a professional services case if customisation is required.

For the Next Year Copy, if you want to copy the 6 Mathematics 2.0 strands over, you can set them back to being Active and do so.

NB: Remember that when loading Victorian Curriculum for 2024, the unused Mathematics Curriculum should be deleted, eg Mathematics if Mathematics 2.0 is being used for 2024, or vice-versa.
