From 1 July 2026, new Payday Super laws come into effect which may change how you calculate and when you pay your employees’ super guarantee.
Now, Australian employers must pay employee superannuation at the same time as their salary and wages, rather than quarterly. They must pay employees their super guarantee on payday, at the same time as their salary and wages.
Super guarantee is:
- calculated as 12% of an employee's qualifying earnings (QE), which is a new term that brings together ordinary time earnings (OTE*) and other payments
- paid to an employees’ super fund on payday and received by the super fund within 7 business days (unless an extended timeframe applies, such as for new employees).
- Penalties apply for late payments after 7 business days (25% or 50% of the unpaid SGC, depending on any prior penalties
To support these changes, Synergetic is introducing some changes to Employee Payroll Maintenance, Pay Code Maintenance, and Payroll Superannuation Export.
Pay Code Maintenance
Synergetic calculates and reports Superannuation Liability and Qualifying Earnings (QE) based on the configuration of each Pay Code.
It is the responsibility of the school to review these settings and confirm they are correct. To assist with this review, relevant links to the ATO website are provided.
From the release that includes the Pay Day Super upgrade, all Pay Codes will include a “Contributes to Qualifying Earnings” flag on the General tab.

For Pay Codes with a Pay Code Type of Normal Include in Superannuation Calculation and Contributes to Qualifying Earnings are automatically selected.
For schools that previously enabled OTE the Contributes to OTE flag will continue to be displayed. This flag is not used in the calculation or reporting of Qualifying Earnings.
For schools that did not enable OTE there is no change to current behaviour.
Pay Code Listing Report
To support schools reviewing their pay codes, a QE flag column has been added to the Government Reporting mode for this report.

Employee Payroll Maintenance
For schools that have enabled OTE, the Super Liability / OTE Submit field drop‑down has been updated to align with Qualifying Earnings (QE) reporting.

For schools that have not enabled OTE, this field remains unpopulated, and there is no change to what is displayed on the Tax tab.
Payroll Superannuation Export
We’ve updated the way you will create your superannuation exports, by removing the date filter selection and introducing functionality that requires you to select the specific Posting Number for the pay run you need.

In the past, the date range filter could be used to export across multiple pay runs, but now that superannuation must be processed each payday, this will no longer be needed. By removing this we have also avoided the potential for accidently “doubling up” and overpaying super – especially if you have employees being paid on different cycles.
Now you will simply select a Posting Number, review the details and then export. You can search for posting numbers by their payroll year, or by the specific Posting Number.
