Applying validation rules

Validation rules can be applied to elements to alert users when they have entered incorrect information. You can apply validation rules to validate:

  • email addresses
  • numbers
  • URLs
  • website addresses
  • phone numbers
  • regular expressions.

For example, the following element has a phone number validation that alerts the user when they do not enter a valid phone number.

To apply a validation rule:

  1. Click .
  2. Select either:

    • Text input

    • Text area
  3. Click . See Online form builder - Properties tab.
    The Properties tab is displayed.
  4. Select a validation option from the Validation drop-down list.

    The validation rule is applied to the selected element.

    Tip:
    You can preview the validation by clicking  and typing non-conforming content into the field. For example, text into a Mobile number field. 


  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to add additional validation rules.
  6. Click .
