Assessments and reports Overview

Before starting, review key concepts. See Concepts used in student assessments.

The SynWeb Assessments module allows you to:

• View class details, including the teacher responsible for the class. See Maintaining classes.
• View course details and maintain information about courses such as course dates and linked classes. See Maintaining courses.
• Create and maintain external tests and their results. See Maintaining external tests.
• View learning area details and maintain information about learning areas such as linked staff and classes. See Maintaining learning areas.
• Enter and maintain student results. See Maintaining student results.
• View and maintain subject assessments and subject assessment areas. See Maintaining subject assessments.
• Archive student reports. See Printing or archiving student reports.
• Produce reports for all aspects of Assessments and reports. See Key assessment and reporting reports.

Note: SynWeb connects to the Synergetic database using a web browser. If you use SynWeb you do not need to export assessments and work on them off-line.

Department administrators can define and alter the style of reporting independently of how results and comments are entered by staff. If required, department administrators can enforce:

• result types, using their own edit masks
• lengths of comments, to ensure comments fit on a uniform report layout
• comments to be used, if they want to restrict staff to standard department agreed comments.

Synergetic Windows client

Use Synergetic for the following functions that are unavailable in SynWeb. You can:

• Maintain curriculum frameworks. See Maintaining curriculum frameworks in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
• Copy VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) definitions from one year to the next. See Copying subject assessment definitions in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
• Set up automatic rewards. See Setting up automatic awards in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
• Process result checks and calculations for AusVELS, Victorian Curriculum, Religious Education (RE), Religious Education Renewed (REN) or WAAR (Western Australian Assessment Reporting) data. See Processing result checks and calculations in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
• Process student reports. See Processing student reports in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
• Monitoring assessment data using Power BI dashboards. See Monitoring assessments and reports data using Power BI Dashboards in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
